Travel to the hills
Queen of the hills- Mussoorie: The devastation in the Himalayas has me reeling back and contemplating how lucky I’ve been. Thanks to my father’s wanderous and adventurous spirit, your girl has travelled almost the entirety of India, but especially the mountains.
I remember being a precocious child with overbearing nausea, with my head in ma’s lap, while papa teetered on with his warnings of ‘Don’t go to sleep, you’ll miss the view.’ God, was he right. The mountains are suffering with never-ending construction and expansion activities.
Last winter, I found myself in Dehradun, completely awestruck with the amenities and facilities available there. I had gotten awfully sick, and my health was on the verge of ruin when my mother decided to pack up our bags and leave between my semester exams, all so I could breathe better, and breathe I did. We checked into our hostel, and I cinematically threw the windows open. The Doon Valley literally engulfed me in its mighty magnificence, and NO EXAGGERATION—I heaved a sigh of relief. This year as well, I meant to attend the Dehradun literature festival, but the recent cloudburst has put a pin in that.
This post is my ode to the lofty Himalayas that have inadvertently shaped the essence of who I am today. I have such fond foundational memories of travelling that I think now I get pissed at the prospect of having to stay home.

Or as my dad liked to call it—Pahado ki Rani:)
My key takeaways from this trip
- The food is sumptuous—I kid you not, I have not had such tasty food anywhere else up to now. Any delicacy, any type, any corner—you’ll find a hearty meal.
- The views leave a mark—you will probably have more than a hundred photos in your gallery with all the picturesque scenes this hill station can offer.
- Dog lovers’ paradise—there are soo many cute bhutia dogs, hidden or just lazing around the streets of Mussoorie.
- Romantic getaway—there is love in the air, in how the locals greet you the minute you step foot onto the Mall Road.
- Cafe Heaven—Man, I’ve been lucky enough to stop at various cafes. Every 10 meters you will find a quality cafe with a banger menu.
- Hidden Treks—You can literally walk to Landour, which believe me, is a place you wouldn’t want to miss. Be sure to check out A. Prakash and Co.—a shop I fell in love with at first glance!
